If you ask 100 people why they believe in god, you might initially get 100 different answers.
If you probe further, I believe you’ll discover that most believers believe in [tag]god[/tag] for two primary reasons:
…..just because, and
because they have to (fear & security)
Now that might appear to be an oversimplification of a serious matter and it may well be. It is my contention, based solely on personal experience, that most monotheist believers can be boiled down to either what William James, in his book A Will To Believe, called “a leap of faith” or what I flippantly refer to as “just because”.
