The Lang Report is excited to announce the addition of a new Category we are calling "As Randi Rhodes Sees It"
is the #1 Progressive Talk host in the nation. She has grown in stature on and off radio gathering an army of loyal listeners along the way. As a very long time listener, I am very glad to see that she has come into her own and receiving the kudos and respect that she has earned and rightly deserves.
As Publisher of The Lang Report, I plan to honor her as I ‘steal’ a little of her wit and brilliance so that I may share it with my readers.
Randi grew up in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, New York, before moving to Marina Del Rey, California with her father when she was 15 years old. Her married name is Randi Robertson and Rhodes is a stage name chosen to honor Ozzy Osbourne’s guitar player "Randy Rhodes,"
In late September 1992, Rhodes started on WIOD in Miami, working the 8pm to 11pm night shift. The Miami Herald described her as "a chain-smoking bottle blond,…part "Joan Rivers", part shock jock Howard Stern and part Saturday Night Live’s ‘Coffee Talk’ lady. But mostly, she’s her rude, crude, loud, brazen, gleeful self. when she left South Florida radio, Where she had the #1 ranked talk show in her market, for national syndication. Oh, and don’t let the Brooklyn accent fool you because she is sharp as a tack!
After Miami, Randi moved to West Palm Beach, FL to raise her niece Jessica after losing her sister Ellen to breast cancer. She went to work for WJNO where I believe she finally arrived! The coverage she provided for the "O.J. Simpson" trial was mind-blowing! WHO KNEW? Everybody I spoke to thought that she was a trial lawyer. Bravo Randi! I have loved and respected you ever since.
In 2004, Rhodes joined Air America Radio, bringing The Randi Rhodes Show to its largest audience to date. Rhodes’ show on Air America consisted principally of monologue with comedic content and listener calls. Only occasionally did she do interviews. The show was punctuated with musical interludes, including the show’s unofficial theme song, Pain by "Stereomud". On Fridays, Rhodes opened the show with the song Bounce Your Boobies by Rusty Warren. With her distinctive Brooklyn-Queens accent, she would take calls spanning the political spectrum, aggressively promoting her views.
In 2007, Rhodes was recognized by the radio industry’s well known periodical, "Talkers Magazine" as Woman of the Year!
Randi is impeccably researched and infectiously funny; she pulls no punches and never fails to both enlighten and entertain. She starred in the HBO documentary Left of the Dial, was named Talkers Magazine’s 2007 Woman of the Year and is probably watching C-SPAN right now. You go girl!

“Rude Crude Loud & Brazen” these are words to commend her???
If a ‘conservative’ offered the same level of vitriolic comments, adhominum attacts, and high level of personal they’d be demonized.

Lenny, ok, so she is not perfect. And O also crunge sometimes when she exibits those traits you mentioned. one of my biggest pet peeves is when she dominates a conversation to the point that the caller does cannot finish a sentence without Randi cutting them off.
But overall, she rewards of being a loyal listener over the years has proved, at least to this listener, to be well worth the effort of allowing her to be “human”.

No one is questioning her humanity.
The issue is the double standard.
I do not know of any ‘conservative’ talk show host who would not have the entire national press and all the media in an uproar if the same level of vile were spewed.
If a Limbaugh or Hannity were to stoop to those levels, they would be crucified. There would be protests, front page articles, and a huge outcry.
And you simply pass it off as “allowing her to be human”.
And she’s not the only one. I hear commentators on Air America offer observations and make statements that would be considered grounds for crucifiction if they were uttered by someone from their political opposition.

Lenny, firstly, it sounds as if you have an ax to grind with “progressive talk” shows and/or their hosts.
I really would like to know what you mean by the “level” spewed.
Putting aside their delivery of information why don’t you mention to “integrity” of the information that people like Hanity and Limbaugh spew on a daily basis. Do you think for a second that they are “factual.” If so, then let’s just part ways now because it would be delusional to think that they care about “the truth”.
At least Randi backs up her arguments with documentation. Now you may think she is a foul-mouthed bitch but she at least tells the truth.

a. You confuse her “rude crude loud and brazen” OPINIONS, with whether she utters facts or not.
b. It is not me who referred to her as a foul-mouthed bitch.
c. You avoid the main point… again.
At issue is not whether I have “an ax to grind with progressive talk”. Some hosts, like Lionel, are quite thought provoking.
Leftist talk show hosts are considered “just being human” when they deliver personal insults, and outrageous statements against people, rather than policy. Right thinking talk show hosts, if they would express themselves exactly the same way, would be vilified, and there would be protests, along with massive news coverage.
Do you dispute that?

Lenny, I do not dispute the inequality between left & right talk shows and their hosts when it come to how they are treated by the MSM and public at large.
What I am more concerned about and will continue to speak out about is misconceptions, misrepresentations and falsehoods wherever I find them.
I will admit that I choose not to listen to Limbaugh, Hannity and the like because they as less concerned with truth than toeing the party line.
Randi Rhodes, with all of her shortcomings, is more concerned with truth, even with her personal beliefs.
Case in point: she was always a Clinton supporter, Bill and Hillary until they started behaving in a way she couldn’t tolerate.
I am not debating the Clinton issue but am merely pointing out her standing on principles and not who signs her paycheck.

Randi is a Goddess!
She gives those of us with an educatd brain a reason to turn on the radio and listen.
She encourages local grassroots political action and inspires those who have given up on believing in their democratic freedoms.
Keep on, keeping on Randi and we will listen and support you no matter where you lead…
