Bush MUST Be Impeach – There is No Other Way!

Cass Sunstein, an adviser to Barack Obama from the University of Chicago Law School, said that as president, Obama won't prosecute crimes that Bush and his confederates committed while in office. Sunstein dismissed these crimes, comparing them to the "crimes" that Bill Clinton was impeached over.

Well, there you have it. War crimes, mass murder, violating the Constitution and other assorted “high crimes and misdemeanors” are no different from oral sex.

Cass Sunstein cautioned against criminal prosecution for George Bush and his Administration. Prosecuting government officials risks a "cycle" of criminalizing public service, he argued, and Democrats should avoid replicating retributive efforts like the impeachment of President Clinton--or even the "slight appearance" of it.

Sunstein recently rejected the notion of prosecuting Bush officials for crimes such as torture and unlawful surveillance. After Sen. Obama’s unpopular vote on the FISA bill,IMPEACH1 it has triggered a blogger backlash — raising questions about the commitment of the Democrats to do anything other than taking office and reaping the benefits of power.

With many Democrats still fuming over the refusal of Democratic leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi to allow even impeachment hearings into detailed allegations of crimes by President Bush in office,

Sunstein did add that “egregious crimes should not be ignored,” according to one site, click here. It is entirely unclear what that means since some of us take the views that any crimes committed by the government are egregious. Those non-egregious crimes are precisely what worries many lawyers who were looking for a simple commitment to prosecute crimes committed by the government.

How did we get here? How has our system, values and willingness to overlook and accept blatant criminal activities by our elected officials gotten to this point?

It almost like the comic book “Bizarro World” where everything is backwards…..black is white and white is black.

A couple of years ago, a reporter asked Bush "Why hasn't anyone been held accountable, either through firings or demotions, for what some people see as mistakes or misjudgments?" Bush responded, "Well, we had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 election."

So his logic is that he and his “Crime Family” were held accountable when they lost their majorities in congress in 2006 therefore you are only held accountable for your crimes when you lose an election. Thus, if you win, the very fact that you got more votes than your opponent is an absolute authorization to break the law.

In other words, anyone in power, by definition, can break the law.

And therein lies the crux of the problem whereas any citizen can be held accountable for the most minor offense, while a politician can break the law at will; the theory being that lawbreaking comes with the job.

The result of this has been a gradual weakening in the constitution and the rule of law so much so that our democracy and the democratic process has become riddled with a cancer. And just as the treatment and recovery from cancer can be long, arduous and fraught with dangers, so would be the restoration of our damaged democracy.

So when the pundits and politicians claim that the enforcement of constitution law, or impeachment would come at a cost, their implication is that we should back down and avoid the issue altogether.

My response to that is SO WHAT! Our Founding Father sacrificed it all for the sake of living in a free and democratic society so if a few feathers are ruffled during the due process of law, I still say SO WHAT!

There is no easy way back from where we find ourselves at this point in time. A lot of time, money and careers were spent screwing up a good thing and the recovery process is going to come with the usual “bump and bruises” however it must be as there is no other way.

NO OTHER WAY!
