Drug Czars and the War on Drugs Board Game
By Michael Lang on Feb 16, 2009 in Featured
Noe Ramirez, the former head of Mexico’s special organized crime bureau has been charged with selling information to Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, the head of one of the country’s most powerful drug cartels, the attorney general’s office said on Sunday.
To anyone following the absurd world of the illegal drug trade, this announcement comes just as President Obama has tapped ex-Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske to be America’s next Drug Czar.
Ramirez, who stepped down as chief of the SIEDO federal investigation unit in July last year, was detained in November for allegedly receiving $450,000 for passing secrets to the Sinaloa cartel, headed by Mexico’s top drug fugitive Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman.
Mexico’s police force is riddled with corruption and the arrest of the country’s top drug prosecutor has been the biggest catch so far in a sweeping probe to smoke out cops and government officials working for drug smugglers.
President Felipe Calderon’s two-year-old crackdown on drug cartels has sparked turf wars between rival gangs that led to the deaths of around 6,000 people last year.
So as Ramirez steps off the stage, Kerlikowske takes center stage (if approved) on the merry-go-round we call the “War on Drugs.” There seems to be no end to this bizzare game of underpaid cops trying to stop overpaid druggies from providing a product that will never be without buyers willing to pay over-inflated prices.
The whole affair would be laughable if it weren’t for the thousands of non-violent drug users going to prison and having their lives ruined because of an unjust and “silly” law….a law that was first enacted because of the political manueverings of Harry J. Anslinger. But hey…on the positive side, Kerlikowske hails from Seattle — a city that has elected to make the enforcement marijuana crimes cops’ lowest priority. And although the police chief spoke out against the initiative effort — which passed with 58 percent of the vote in 2003 — he’s abided by the will of the people since then. As a result, there are now fewer marijuana-related arrests in Seattle than in virtually any other major city in the United States.
Is this the best we can hope for on a national level……a Federal government that will “tolerate” the use of soft drugs?
Not until we apply embrace and adopt the principle of the concept, “incrementalism is the death of innovation (or change).” This simply means that making small “changes” or “course corrections” will not produce the overall results needed or desired.
Applied in the case of illegal drugs, decriminalization is not the answer. It’s only an attempt to appease both sides of the issue. What is needed to is to understand that legislating morality and/or personal behaviors is not the business of government….never!
Until real change occurs, people like “Shorty” Guzman, Pablo Escobar, Al Capone and anyone else making a fortune from substances the governments says is “taboo….NOTHING WILL CHANGE AS THE JAILS OVERFLOW!

If you get a lender who is providing bad credit loans and abiding by the legislations of the state, then you can be confident that the lender is authentic. You can proceed and obtain that loan for fulfilling your financial necessities. Expenditures like utility bills, medical bills, school fees and unanticipated traveling expenses can hit anybody badly. By getting the opportunity to obtain money within just a few hours with the help of payday loans, you can receive quick money without any trouble.
In spite of poor or low credit score, you would be accepted since no credit check is performed prior to giving the acceptance. If you are a resident of the United States, your age is more than 18 years and you have a steady employment from which you are making minimum $1,000 per month, then you would be eligible for getting the loan. You must also have a valid account where the money would be credited. At the time of a financial crisis, you should not bother, move ahead and obtain the payday advance loan to satisfy your emergency expenditures.
