SUNDAY TALK SHOWS - Schedule
By Michael Lang on Jul 5, 2008 in Featured
There are plenty of fireworks on the Sunday talk shows this Fourth of July weekend, as the presidential race heats up, all parties covering the events are jockeying for position in an attempt to be first, the wittiest, the most profound and most importantly…. to be heard!
Two key campaign surrogates from the Senate appear this week on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” A week after his much buzzed-about interview with retired Gen. Wesley Clark, host Bob Schieffer talks with 2004 Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), an outspoken Barack Obama supporter.
After Kerry is Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), fresh off a trip with John McCain to Colombia, where the two senators were briefed by the Colombian government just hours before a dramatic hostage rescue operation deep in the Colombian jungle.
Will Graham offer any new details?
ABC’s “This Week” features a foreign policy debate between McCain backer Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Obama supporter Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.).
After what should be a heated exchange between the surrogates, host George Stephanopoulos interviews former Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.), who is running for president as a libertarian.
Could Barr siphon off enough votes from McCain to deliver his home state of Georgia for Obama?
Then, Stephanopoulos leads a roundtable discussion on the week’s events with Jonathan Capehart of The Washington Post, Michelle Cottle of The New Republic, Mark Halperin of Time and Ted Koppel of the Discovery Channel.
CNN’s “Late Edition” celebrates Wolf Blitzer’s 10-year anniversary with the program with a special tribute to the host. The two-hour retrospective will feature some of Blitzer’s classic interviews with world leaders including Nelson Mandela and prominent U.S. politicians including George W. Bush and Al Gore
.
Bloomberg’s “Political Capital” also honors the holiday, as host Al Hunt discusses what the founding fathers would have thought about the upcoming presidential election with Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Joseph Ellis.
NBC’s “Meet the Press” is dark this weekend to make way for the Wimbledon tennis championships between Roger Federer of Switzerland and Rafael Nadal of Spain, neither of whom have made public their preferences, if any, in our presidential election.
And with millions of Americans hitting the road this holiday weekend, C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” features an interview with Transportation Secretary Mary Peters conducted by Christopher Conkey of The Wall Street Journal and Alan Levin of USA Today.
“Fox News Sunday” will feature host Brit Hume with what the Fox News website calls an “All-Star Power Panel” consisting of Fred Barnes and Bill Kristol of The Weekly Standard and Mara Liasson and Juan Williams of National Public Radio discussing, also according to the Fox News website, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Colombia, Mexico and several domestic political issues as well.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!
