SUPERDELEGATES, Is It Going To Get Ugly?
By Michael Lang on May 8, 2008 in Featured
- "to be or not to be", it this the question? Is it going to come down to an ugly, nit-picking brawl prompted primarily by a candidate’s ego or unwillingness to accept the obvious and "let go"…. especially when they, themselves espouse what’s "best" for the country?
There are 795 (not including Michigan and Florida) total Democratic that the nominees are trying to be endorsed by. This consists of 719 regular superdelegates and 76 unpledged add-ons. We will continue to add the unpledged add-ons as soon as they are named by each state. (Note: Democrats Abroad superdelegates get 1/2 vote each, so there are actually 799 superdelegates casting 795 votes).
UNPLEDGED AND PLEDGED PARTY LEADERS AND ELECTED OFFICIAL DELEGATES
- The procedure to be used for certifying unpledged party leader and elected official delegates is as follows:
Not later than March 1, 2008, the Secretary of the Democratic National Committee shall officially confirm to each State Democratic Chair the names of the following unpledged delegates who legally reside in their respective state and who shall be recognized as part of their state’s delegation unless any such member has publicly expressed support for the election of, or has endorsed, a presidential candidate of another political party;
- The individuals recognized as members of the DNC (as set forth in Article Three, Sections 2 and 3 of the Charter of the Democratic Party of the United States); and,
- The Democratic President and the Democratic Vice President of the United States, if applicable; and,
- All Democratic members of the United States House of Representatives and all Democratic members of the United States Senate; and,
- The Democratic Governor, if applicable; and,
- All former Democratic Presidents, all former Democratic Vice Presidents, all former Democratic Leaders of the U.S. Senate, all former Democratic Speakers of the U.S. House of Representatives and Democratic Minority Leaders, as applicable, and all former Chairs of the Democratic National Committee.
- The individuals recognized as members of the DNC (as set forth in Article Three, Sections 2 and 3 of the Charter of the Democratic Party of the United States); and,
Note: While superdelegates must be certified by March 1, changes can be made up until the convention starts.
Super-delegates highlighted in red are from Michigan or Florida and do not count toward the nomination at this time.
Superdelegates highlighted in green have committed to voting for the delegate leader at the end of the primaries. (And Rep. Robert Wexler is both red and green).
The official list of superdelegates as of April 17 can be found here.
Totals for each candidate can be seen in the Delegate Tracker in the left sidebar.

I feel very strongly that we should not llet Hillary change the rules to benefit herself.
In Fjlorida Obama was on the ticket but no campaigning. So split the delegates in Florida would be fair. InMichigan Billary want the whole cigar. What a mistake. 3 or 4 of the delegates took their names off the ballotNOT ONLY OBAMA to obey the Democratic party rules. She did not obey the rules and of course won votes. Tell me how this can be fair. She is too aggressive and has too much ego to every lead this county. She thinks she is right about everything. I am a 72 years old caucausian from Florida. Don’t let Hillary boss you around Super Delegates. I believe in you. Audrey Marie

Audrey Marie, I couldn’t agree more! We shouldn’t even be debating the pros and cons of adding Florida and Michigan. I live in Florida anhave an opinion on the matter however it is all moot.
They all signed an agreement saying that those 2 states were off the table and they were not to campaign in them. Hillary renegged and campaigned anyway and now she wants to erase the whole deal….ON PRINCIPLE!
Would she still be fighting for it….on principle if Obama was behind.
I THINK NOT!

To be a adroit lenient being is to be enduring a kind of openness to the far-out, an ability to guardianship aleatory things beyond your own pilot, that can govern you to be shattered in hugely exceptionally circumstances on which you were not to blame. That says something remarkably important with the condition of the principled passion: that it is based on a conviction in the up in the air and on a willingness to be exposed; it’s based on being more like a plant than like a prize, something fairly tenuous, but whose acutely particular attractiveness is inseparable from that fragility.
