Watermelons on the White House lawn! Are you f*cking kidding me?
Hey, I think I have a great sense of humor and am all for political satire and cartoons but what the f*ck was the mayor of Los Alamitos thinking when he broadcasted an email with a picture of watermelons growing on the White House lawn?
The mayor of Los Alamitos is coming under fire for an e-mail he sent out that depicts the White House lawn planted with watermelons, under the title "No Easter egg hunt this year."
Local businesswoman and city volunteer Keyanus Price, who is black, said Tuesday she received the e-mail from Mayor Dean Grose's personal account on Sunday and wants a public apology.
"I have had plenty of my share of chicken and watermelon and all those kinds of jokes," Price told The Associated Press. "I honestly don't even understand where he was coming from, sending this to me. As a black person receiving something like this from the city-freakin'-mayor - come on."
The Orange County Register first reported the e-mail on its Web site Tuesday night.
Grose confirmed to the AP that he sent the e-mail to Price and said he didn't mean to offend her. He said he was unaware of the racial stereotype that black people like watermelons.
He said he and Price are friends and serve together on a community youth board.
"Bottom line is, we laugh at things and I didn't see this in the same light that she did," Grose told the AP. "I'm sorry. It wasn't sent to offend her personally - or anyone - from the standpoint of the African-American race."
Grose, who became mayor in December, said he sent an apology e-mail to Price and her boss and also left her a voicemail apology.
Regardless, Price said it will be difficult for the two to work together.
"Now I am like - wow, is this really how he feels?" Price said.
Los Alamitos is a 2¼-square-mile Orange County city of around 12,000 people. The mayor is elected by fellow members of the five-seat City Council, and now should be driven out of town on a rail.
Hey, why don’t we make him grow watermelons on his lawn…..I am sure his neighbors will love it!

How can anyone in todays world even think that this is okay?! I as a Native American am apalled at this! I cant believe that a person in public office would have the nerve to put this out to the world. just when you think we have made stride foreword we get this. A reminder that racism is not gone just went underground. from the time those forst stepped off thier boat it has been putting up with others arrogant crap! that is what racism is! to the Mayor: you need to truly see you place in the world. if it want for my ancestors you kind wouldnt even exist. we gave you a place too live, medicine for your children, and principles by which to live.

Ok I don’t guess I get it. I look at a picture of watermelons on the White House lawn and have no clue what it has to do with racism!! And I am assuming I am not the only one.

I think we need to leave racism alone and think about how we can help the poor and the homeless. There’s different ways to do good and racism is not one of them.

Does anyone even know who drew this picture, does anyone know if it was a black, yellow, red or white person?
What bothers me is the Obama’s sat in a racist and anti-american church for 20 years, I for one do not believe he wasn’t aware of it, just like he said their isn’t any pork in the stimulus bill. Lies Lies Lies

I truly believe if your going to be a racist be a damn racist tell the truth standby your action . Tell people “I sent the e-mail because I hate the fact that the family who is in the white house is black” What a coward!!! Do you honestly think there is a black person or a person who isnt racist buys that story, I didnt know it was offensive.

It was widely stated, initially by the Obama administration, that this campaign was not about race. -It wasn’t? Really? This reminds me of the old joke about how us guys like saying that we like Playboy magazine because we like reading the articles. Come on folks!! We’ve got Black Panthers in Philly guarding voting booths with billy-clubs, totally shoved under the carpet by the general media. We’ve got a record breaking demographic of African-Americans voting for Obama, of whom we can rest assured that a solid percentage never even voted before until now. We’ve got swing voters swayed by a biased media (of whom 85% of the public would agree on that bias) Why all the interest all the sudden? If he and McCain were to swap political standpoints and opinion…it would not have changed the result. Obama would have still won. But it’s not about race. -Yeah right. It was ALL about race. Racism is only an opinion nowadays people. It’s not going “keep anyone down” anymore from jobs or opportunities. We’ve got affirmative action, BET, NAACP, United Negro College Fund, and many others facets in place to protect only African-Americans. -Yeah, never mind about prosperity for the other ethnicities. And all the sudden, freedom of speech is getting thrown out the window. And who cares if he was a mayor. That’s not the point. He could have been a Joe-The-Plumber kind of guy and still would have received the same heat. What’s worse? A guy who shares a bit of narrow-minded humor or a country that is slowly slipping into a sensored, politically correct, mandated, and regulated society, where people get sued and fired from their jobs for expressing their 1st Amendment Rights? I’ll be more than happy to suck it up and choose not to laugh at a joke if it means preserving our freedom of friggin’ speech!
