Bush and Cheney Warned to Stay Out of Brattleboro - OR ELSE!

The Lang Report has been following the exploits of John Nirenberg of and his courageous walk to Washington D.C. to deliver a petition, to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney, to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Wow, how do you top that? Well, the citizens of Brattleboro are living up to their long history of taking action against injustice and tyranny by putting a resolution on the ballot to indict Bush and Cheney for violating their oath of office and failing to follow the Constitution for a variety of actions stemming from the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism. Here is what it says:

"Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against ourregime change Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities? And shall it be the law of the Town of Brattleboro that the Brattleboro Police, pursuant to the above-mentioned indictments, arrest and detain George Bush and Richard Cheney in Brattleboro if they are not duly impeached, and extradite them to other authorities that may reasonably contend to prosecute them."

If the resolution passes, supporters say Bush and Cheney could be arrested in Brattleboro if they step foot here after their terms in office expire. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Vermonters have long taken stands on the big issues of the day at town meeting. Back in 1854, the issue was slavery. Several towns passed resolutions condemning the pending federal Kansas-Nebraska legislation that would have allowed the new states to sanction slavery, according to State Archivist Gregory Sanford.

In 1974, the town of Thetford voted to impeach then-President Richard Nixon, who went on to resign later that year. Eight years later, 150 Vermont towns adopted a nuclear weapons freeze resolution.

The one thing that is true about Vermonters is that you do not trash the Constitution and their inalienable rights and get away with it for too long before they rise up and take action against it.

The Indictment Resolution was drafted by Kurt Daims and then placed on the Brattleboro Town Meeting ballot with the vote taking place at the General Town Meeting and Presidential Primary, this Tuesday, March 4th .

Thousands of emails and comments from throughout the country have been received, praising Brattleboro and its citizens for the unprecedented  step of initiating this Resolution to indict the President and Vice President of the United States of America. The Brattleboro Indictment Resolution has also inspired similar resolutions around the country, including Portland (OR) and Kennebunkport (ME).

Kennebunkport? Isn’t that the summer home of the Bush family?

Yes, it is!

Would be nice if they could arrest them and extradite them to Iraq.

Ginger, wouldn’t that be nice! I am fairly certain that there are many patriotic Iraqis that would love to parade Bush and Cheney threw the streets and give them the welcome the so richly earned.

Do they still “TAR & FEATHER” people these days?
