The are few in the media that have both a pulpit high enough to make a difference and the chutzpa to speak out on those issues that lesser men remain silent on. , The host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, Keith is one of those people whose has risen to unofficially carry the torch and fill the seat left vacant by Edward R. Murrow in 1964.

He even uses Murrow’s signature sign-off, “Good Night and Good Luck”, to end his show.

When the media went conspicuously silent immediately after the Bush Crime Family stole the 2000 election, I heard many of my peers asking for, almost pleading for, another “Woodward & Bernstein” to step forward and use the power of the Fourth Estate to hold accountable all those that we have elected or appointed to represent us in all three branches of government.

Bush and company have had, for the last seven plus years, a veritable free rein to run rough shod over the United States Constitution and the American people. The unholy trinity of Bush, Cheney and Rove have used every trick, loop-hole and slimy tactic in the book and some to accomplish their goal of turning the presidency into an imperial throne answerable to no one regardless of the rule of law and the Constitution. And then, when all that failed, THEY LIED!

The’ve been lying and continue to lie and we know it but the press, save for a precious few, remained silent. Among those precious few, Keith Olbermann, in my opinion, is our greatest hope to shine a light on the dark rooms the Bush Crime Family operates in.

Like many of my fellow baby boomers who at one time marched against the Vietnam War, I have difficulty sitting through any of today’s traditional newscasts without yelling at my television set in response to what I do not hear. One of the common rants I can be heard screaming is “answer the fucking question”!

One of the highlights of my day is Olbermann’s Countdown show where I can count on getting my daily dose of brutal honesty, the only kind capable of combating the onslaught of bullshit being manufactured and slung from our nations capital. I rarely sense that Olbermann “bites his tongue”, holding back on saying those things that need saying in this democratic society. Especially if we wish to remain democratic!

Thank you Keith Olbermann, thank you for your courage to speak out on those things that most others in your profession will not. Those of us that are listening support you Mr. Olbermann, and your supporters are growing in numbers and purpose. We may not be enough right now to mute the White House propagandists, however I hope that our numbers will soon be great enough to soften their resolve.

So, Mr. Olbermann, please continue to do your thing until an army of Woodward and Bernsteins  become ready and willing for you to pass the baton to. I trust that there are others, like you Mr. Olbermann, who care enough for these United States of to broadcast the truth so that the people can examine our government and our elected representatives to keep them honest and on track.
