The Marketing Guru Who Cried Wolf

Are you are as tired as I am of the hype, the greed and the uncertainty of not knowing which to trust? There is not a day that goes by that a newly self-proclaimed guru does not pop up on the internets radar screen causing more confusion and doubt for those of us in search of a better way.
We all should remember of The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the moral of it that has been passed down from generation to generation. For those a little foggy on the story I will paraphrase it for the sake of this article and the updated message I am trying to impart.
It Begins A shepherd boy, in an effort to amuse himself while tending his flock, cried wolf, wolf, the wolf is chasing my sheep! The villagers responded by running down the hill to assist the boy, only to find that there was no wolf.
The boy laughed and the villagers scolded him, Dont when there is no wolf. Well, the boy continued to cry wolf again and again, and the villagers continued to respond and scold him each time to no avail.
One day, when the boy saw a real wolf, he screamed again, wolf, wolf but this time the villagers did not come running as they had responded to his false reports too many times before.
Some time afterwards, the boy, in tears, spoke to the village elder asking, why did you not come when there really was a wolf? The old man replied,
Nobody believes a liar, even when he is really telling the truth
.
I believe that anybody that has tried to find quality products and services to assist them in their Internet related business, whether it is a startup or ongoing enterprise, knows the difficulty in separating the true from the false.
There is so much hype surrounding most of the offerings that it is virtually impossible to know for certain what you are buying into until after the fact. Remember, that even though you may consider yourself sharp with a superior intellect and a fair amount of real life experience, you are dealing with people that know all of the right things to say to create interest, excitement and a call to action. The action being buying their product!
The only way to know is to get a recommendation from someone you know, trust and ideally will not profit from your decision. Beyond that, it's a crapshoot! I must admit some embarrassment in disclosing that I have been duped on more than one occasion.
In fact, I will admit that I mistakenly bought them same product....TWICE. My only defense is that they had different names but I made those buying decisions emotionally. At least that's what I tell myself.
And all this from a man with an IQ above 148! So much for superior intelligence! So, when you sense that someone is crying wolf, run in the opposite direction, OK?
