What Would Thomas Jefferson Do?

Or for that matter, what would any of the Founding Fathersdo if faced with the 2007 State of the Union? Considering the men and their times, they probably would grab a rifle off of the rack and go hunting on the White House lawn! ……it doesn’t hurt to dream a little. The point I am trying to make is to illustrate how far we have drifted from what America could and should be. Time has shown us exactly how wise the Founding Fathers of our country were.

Though they could never plan for every possible contingency that could occur over the following centuries they did design a system of . This systems was supposed to protect us from ourselves and our human inclinations for the lust for power, self interests and greed.

They established three branches of government; Exective, Legislative and Judicial, that were supposed to act as watchdogs, keeping each other in check, which they have for over 200 years.

Now there have been times that our Republic has been tested by those that had their own agenda or sought to further or protect the self interests of a few. There is no better example of this then our present Administration with George Bush and Dick Cheney at the helm.

I could fill pages and pages with the many high crimes and misdemeanors they have commited, but I will not at this time. I will however quote California Senator Barbara Boxer when she said, "This is as close as we’ve ever come to a dictatorship.

When you have a situation where Congress is stepped on, that means the American people are stepped on". WOW!!! So, with a cursory understanding of how our system should work, the question previously posed still remains…..WHAT WOULD THOMAS JEFFERSON DO?

And after you’ve contemplated that for a while, asked yourself what are you going to do?
