President Obama’s First 100 Days – Day 1 and 2

OBAMA AT WORKWell, after an historic inauguration ceremony and subsequent celebration, President Barack Obama didn’t waste any time in getting to work, delivering on the promises and commitments made on a very long campaign trail.

His first day was a blur as President Obama unveiled his plans to revive the economy followed by the summoning of top military officials to the White House to chart a new course in Iraq. "What an opportunity we have to change this country,"  he proudly said.

The President then took the first key step in restoring America's image and credibility in the world by issuing an Executive Order to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay and to prohibit the use of torture by U.S. personnel.

FINALLY! It was a thing of beauty to watch this President, a natural leader take decisive action in beginning the long and arduous task of making the “course corrections” necessary to undo the mess  made by the previous administration.

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) said it best is an article he penned in the Huffington Post today:

The Bush administration never understood what the Guantanamo detention facility symbolized to the rest of the world. They saw it as simply a prison, and just weeks ago, Dick Cheney commented that he thought "Guantanamo has been very well run." The problem with Guantanamo was never about its bricks and mortar. The problem with Guantanamo is that its very existence stains and defies the moral fiber of our great nation.

The Bush administration created the prison following the attacks of September 11th as a way to circumvent the rule-of-law, to legitimize the use of torture, and to justify the permanent detention of those denied the right to petition their imprisonment.

Guantanamo has cast a dark shadow over two centuries of America's moral leadership in the world!

On his second full day in office, Obama took a series of steps overturning some of his predecessor's most contentious war-on-terrorism policies.OBAMA'S FIRST DAY IN THE OFFICE

By ordering shut the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, closing any remaining CIA secret prisons overseas and banning harsh interrogation practices, Obama said he hoped to signal that the U.S. would wage its struggle against terrorism and violence in a manner "consistent with our values and our ideals."

President Obama didn’t waste any time before taking massive action, apparently needing no time to “ramp up” as most politicians tend to do, especially when they stand before a mountain of issues neglected by his predecessor.

All this in just TWO DAYS!

and tomorrow is Day 3…….
