‘Barack the Magic Negro’ – The Latest in Bad Taste!

Barack, the Magic Negro – Is it a deliberate attempt by a specific group to smear our President-elect Barack Obama or a prank by someone that thought it was funny?
Whoever the culprit is it’s the national GOP loses again with a new controversy over the "Barack the Magic Negro" song. It's a racist piece of tripe that says more about the author of it that it does in its feeble attempt at humor.
The song feeds into the worst stereotypes about blacks -- especially U.S. Rep Al Sharpton of New York -- and their supposed need for all kinds of handouts.
Here are the song followed by the lyrics for those who want to make up their own minds.
Barack the Magic Negro lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
‘Cause he’s not authentic like me.
Yeah, the guy from the L.A. paper
Said he makes guilty whites feel good
They’ll vote for him, and not for me
‘Cause he’s not from the hood.
See, real black men, like Snoop Dog,
Or me, or Farrakhan
Have talked the talk, and walked the walk.
Not come in late and won!
[refrain] Oh, Barack the Magic Negro, lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
‘Cause he’s black, but not authentically.
Oh, Barack the Magic Negro, lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
‘Cause he’s black, but not authentically.
Some say Barack’s “articulate”
And bright and new and “clean.”
The media sure loves this guy,
A white interloper’s dream!
But, when you vote for president,
Watch out, and don’t be fooled!
Don’t vote the Magic Negro in –
‘Cause — ’cause I won’t have nothing after all these years of sacrifice
And I won’t get justice. This is about justice. This isn’t about me, it’s about justice.
It’s about buffet. I don’t have no buffet and there won’t be any church contributions,
And there’ll be no cash in the collection plate.
There ain’t gonna be no cash money, no walkin’ around money, no phoning money.
Now, Barack going to come in here and....
This issue is getting national attention because Chip Saltsman recently sent Republican National Committee members a CD that included the song by comedian Paul Shanklin.
Saltsman is seeking the chairmanship of the RNC. He said the song was part of the "light-hearted political parodies" he sent to the members.
But what was Saltsman thinking? That this CD would appeal to the anti-black portion of the RNC?
Congratulations to current RNC Chairman Robert Duncan for decrying Saltsman's indiscretion.
"The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party," Duncan said. "I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate, as it clearly does not move us in the right direction."
Saltsman and others have pointed out that the song was played on Rush Limbaugh's radio program -- as if that excuses the decision to promote such a racist attack on Obama and other black politicians.

great satire. The left was in tiff a over the New Yorker’s cartoon lampooning the right; now the left is in a tizzy over the lampooning of the left. Great. Hypocrites who dish it out never eat their own cooking.

I am a centrist and enjoy real satire but this ain’t it. However, you miss the point. A top aide to two top Republicans felt this was a “winning” tactic in capturing the RNC Chairmanship. It speaks volumes about not just Saltsman but about what he KNEW would appeal to many/most Republicans. The current Chairman was PR savy enough to quickly distance himself but again–this was a “go to” guy for both Frist and Huckabee. A Republican insider who revealed a bit too much about what conservatives really think.

This song is irrelevant. We have huge problems. Barack won’t be willing to solve them, but neither could have McCain. The issue is not right or left. It is how much more government growth and freedom loss will we be able to take before the dollar collapses and the people wind up slaves.
