We Need an Oil-Free President and That’s NOT John McCain!

IS McCAIN FOR SALEWe need an Oil-Free President to deal with gas prices and energy properly—and that's not John McCain!

Several months ago, Sen. (R-AZ) visited the Petroleum Club of Denver on a fund-raising jaunt for his presidential campaign. He should get a warm welcome from the oil and gas executives who show up as all of the attendees at the roundtable were to raise $25,000 apiece, according to the invitation

It was followed by a photo opportunity with McCain for $2,300 per person, then a general reception for $1,000 per person. Not bad for an afternoon in the “Mile High” city!

The centerpiece of Sen. McCain’s plan to stimulate the economy. His whole plan  is large tax cuts for corporations which is a lot like Reagan’s “trickle down” theory which proved that the only thing trickling was the “piss” that showered a whole bunch of unfortunates. The rich got richer, the poor….poorer with the middle class disappearing.

McCain’s plan would deliver $3.8 billion in tax cuts to the five largest American oil companies, according to an analysis released today by theOIL TAX TABLE Center for American Progress Action Fund. (see insert)

From John McCain on down, the Republicans are pushing hard to channel the outrage over gas prices into support for pro-oil policy gimmicks like offshore drilling—gimmicks that would do nothing to solve our energy crisis.

They think this is an issue that can win them the White House. And right now, it's working. At least until the Americans wake up and pay attention and that is the repsonsibility of everyone, including those reading this right now.

We need to fight back, fast. So on July 9th MoveOn.org is holding a National Day of Action for an Oil-Free President. They are going right where people feel the most pain—the gas pump. They hope to reach out to thousands of voters—and the media—to say that we need real solutions to the energy crisis, NOT a president whose campaign is run by oil lobbyists.

This is a true grassroots, voter-to-voter effort at an urgent point in the campaign. EVERYONE IS NEEDED!!!. Please come out next Wednesday to a gas station near you and help spread the word?

There's really only one way out of this energy crisis: get off oil. McCain can't be counted on to do that—he's too tight with oil industry lobbyists and too concerned with Big Oil profits. His tax plan calls for an almost $4 billion tax cut for Big Oil, when they are already making record profits off $4 gas.

Right after Independence Day, in front of big gas price signs, is a great moment to get the message out that we need an Oil-Free President to deal with gas prices and energy properly—and that's not John McCain.
