COUNTDOWN to INAUGURATION

VERTICAL FLAG SHOTInauguration Day is held every four years on the 20th of January, the day also happens to be my birthday, which I celebrate every year.

The last couple of Inauguration days have been bitter-sweet as the country watched George Bush being sworn into an office that I  and many others believe was stolen by an assortment of actions that we will not delve into at this time.

Nevertheless, the countdown has begun as the worldwide celebrations refuse to wane.

The Lang Report will follow the countdown to January 20th when the the first “person of color” becomes the President of the United States, our Commander in Chief and America’s hope for redemption in a post-Bush world.

We began by marveling at the jubilation and good-will showered on America by people and nations all over the world. Our article, “Barack Obama Wins as the World Rejoices,” documents a few of those sentiments.

So now, President-elect Barack Obama, having ran what is being hailed as the most successful and disciplined  political campaign in the last 100 years; and having demonstrated high principles, a “coolness” under fire and a wisdom beyond his years, will now be given the opportunity to show the world  his resolve and plan for a better America.

So let the Countdown continue while we watch, support and marvel as President Barack Obama skillfully moves from rhetoric to massive action.

That being said, it is reported that Rahm Emanuel has been offered the Chief of Staff job in the Obama Administration.

In 2007, he was elected to serve as the Democratic Caucus Chair, the fourth highest ranking Member of the House Democratic Leadership.

Mr Emanuel was the Director of Finance for Bill Clinton's presidential campaign in 1992 and then went on to serve as a senior adviser to PresidentRAHM EMANUEL w.OBAMA Clinton from 1993 to 1998 - first as an assistant to the President for Political Affairs and then as Senior Adviser to the President for Policy and Strategy.

In a profile of Mr Emanuel in Rolling Stone magazine in 2005, entitled The Enforcer, former Clinton staffer Paul Begala said: "He's got this big old pair of brass balls, and you can just hear 'em clanking when he walks down the halls of Congress."

After his time in the Clinton administration, Mr Emanuel became a managing director for a leading global investment bank in Chicago, reportedly earning $16m.

His political career was launched at consumer rights organization Illinois Public Action and then worked on Paul Simon's 1984 US Senate election and served as an adviser and chief fundraiser for Chicago Mayor Richard M Daley in 1989.
