Dick Cheney Gives “Exit” Interview of Face the Nation…and didn’t blink once!
By Michael Lang on Jan 4, 2009 in POLITICS
Vice President Dick Cheney defended administration policies when he gave what could be considered his exit interview or at least his last public interview with Bob Schieffer this morning on Face the Nation.
However Cheney might have shot himself in the foot (well, he does have a history of erratic shooting) when he was asked if he believed the administration’s suspension of habeas corpus was legal, Cheney quickly responded in the negative; then, he caught himself and stated that there was no impeachment, so, in the Vice President’s view, all actions of the administration must be legal if Congress failed to impeach the President or any member of his administration.
It’s that kind of pretzel logic that Cheney and the entire Bush Crime Family are notorious for!
Cheney’s also added to his stellar reputation when offering additional explanations for some of the other controversial policies and practices used by him and his cronies. See if you can follow this….
The torture policy was lawful, in Cheney’s opinion, because it had been approved by the Attorney General. The policy on domestic eavesdropping was lawful because it had been approved by the few members of Congress briefed on it. Cheney even denied that abuses had occurred, despite recent revelations by government whistleblowers.
Therefore, any action that was “yessed” by any other elected official is OK to implement. WOW!
When host Bob Schieffer asked if the Bush administration had gone “too far” in its surveillance program, Cheney said no, “I don’t believe we violated anybody’s civil liberties.”
……..AND HE SAID IT ALL WITH A STRAIGHT FACE!!!!
