Why, if the major religions of the world are monotheistic, are there literally hundreds of sects, and splinter groups?

In the sociology of , a sect is generally a small religious group that has broken off to form another group, or “sub-group.” A large, well-established religious group, like a denomination, is usually formed when a dispute about doctrinal matters occurs. There is a slew of reasons why group splinter off, some actually have some import while most are trivial

Isn’t it interesting that religion, which is suppose to elevate man and hold him to a higher standard; putting spiritual principles before personalities splits into other factions, most times due to personality conflicts and/or internal strife. Even more revealing is the difference of opinion on abstract subjects about which there cannot be any certitude in a finite existence.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam all, when founded, had professed to provide the answer to man’s existence thereby giving him meaning, purpose and a complete solution to living life on life’s terms. If that is so then why the need to build a “new and improved” denomination?

Let me give you an idea of the of how many sects, denominations or branches there are. (this is only a partial list)

Judaism: Sadducees, Pharisees, Essenes, Zealots, Samaritans, Publicans, Nazarenes, Christians, Kabala, Hasidism, Mysticism, Sephardim, etc.

Christianity: Anabaptists, Lutherans, Calvinists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, Puritans, Episcopalians, Baptists, Quakers, Shakers, Methodists, Adventists, Pentacostals, etc.

Islam: Shiites, Sunnis, Wahhabi, Ismailis, Druze, Assassins, Khojas, Sufi Mystic, Black Muslims, Hamas, Fundamentalist, Baha’ism, etc.

Most Westerners are more familiar with the many denominations of Christianity but would be surprised to discover that Islam is broken into more sects than Christiandom!

I read that the difference between a religion and a cult is that religion is made by God and a cult is made by Man.

BULLSHIT it’s all created by man…for man and if man doesn’t like what he created then he’ll pick up his toys and go play somewhere else.
