George Clooney is One Stand-up Guy and Stands Up for Darfur

Actor is well know for is sense of humor and penchant for practical jokes on the sets of the movies he participates in however there seems to be a very serious side to this man that needs recognition.

The Oscar winner was in Washington yesterday to headline the Save rally just days after returning from a real-life secret mission. Clooney and his television-anchor dad smuggled cameras into the Darfur refugee camps to report on what’s been called the 21st century’s first .

George Clooney: Messenger of Peace                                                                                                                                                               Just back from a trip to Sudan’s Darfur region, by way of India; a major contributor to UN Peacekeeping Troops, George Clooney and Jane Holl Lute, Assistant Secretary General of Peacekeeping Operations, were a part of a "technical assessment mission". They visited with recently deployed UN Peacekeepers in Darfur, and with joint African Union and UN Peacekeeping forces in the Central African Republic and Chad, and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. 

At UN, Clooney: “Mistakes Were Made in Lockheed No-Bid Darfur Deal                                                                                                                                                                    “I am not a fan of no-bid contracts, myself” actor and UN Messenger of Peace George Clooney said Thursday, when asked about the UN’s $250 million sole source deal with Lockheed Martin for its Darfur peacekeeping mission.

The award-winning film actor has spent the past few years campaigning to end the 4 1/2-year war in Darfur and to provide humanitarian assistance to the millions caught up in the conflict. According to the U.N., the actor is the ninth U.N. peace envoy and was selected "for his ability to focus public attention on critical international political and social issues."
